About

The Kitchen., or are you really doing it all yourself? In 2004, Donna and Jon decided to repaint their bedroom…then their whole house, and before they knew it, Jon was talking about remodeling their kitchen. In May of 2005, their pretty-but-not-very-functional kitchen became a shell of its former self, and Jon is slowly but surely making something better out of their favorite room in the house.

The Project., or why didn’t you write this all down last year? Have you ever made the same ten things for dinner over and over? No offense Mark Bittman, but by the end of 2004, Donna and Jon had had just about enough of the Minimalist, and Cooking Light, and their entire standard repetoire of recipes. So after dinner with friends one night in late December 2004, they agreed to spend some time making something different for dinner every night, and they kept it up through all of 2005. Leftovers, yes - repeats, no. Eating the same thing twice was for suckers.

Donna did a terrible job of writing things down during the year of eating differently - there are still paper bookmarks in cookbooks all over the house and hundreds of recipes bookmarked in del.ici.ous; when she needed a new source for fresh recipes, she just moved on to a new website. She likes desserts of all kinds, homemade mac and cheese, bahn mi, cooking surprisingly good things with the crockpot, once traveled all the way to London to shop for cookbooks and thinks all those people should stop picking on Rachael Ray (this might have been true once, but since the advent of the talk show, not so much).
