Located a short train journey from central London, Cambridge is a historic city with a youthful buzz thanks to a large student population and a growing tech industry. Whether visiting London, or a London local, a trip to Cambridge comes highly recommended, and the food scene won’t let you down either. I’ve put together a short list of recommended spots to make sure your trip to Cambridge is a satisfying one.
Your Day in Cambridge at a Glance
- Bould Brothers Coffee – Coffee and Pastries
- Your Dumplings – Lunch
- The Free Press Pub – Afternoon Drink
- Craft Burger Cambridge – Light Meal
Bould Brothers Coffee
Located on Regent Street heading into town, Bould Brothers Coffee is the perfect place to start the day with a mid-morning coffee and pastry. This elegant cafe has their own specialty coffee beans and a great selection of drinks and treats, all at a reasonable price.
Highlights: eclectic decor, friendly service, top-notch cappuccinos
Your Dumplings
This down to earth, family run spot is a perfect place for a mid-day bite. They have all the classics you’d expect of a dumpling house, including a handful of vegetarian/vegan friendly options.
Highlights: family run vibe, cheap prices
Fancy an afternoon pint? The Free Press Pub is as old and as cozy as they get. With a nice selection on tap and a hearty pub food menu, this pub is a favourite among Cambridge locals and has been going strong for nearly a few centuries.
Highlights: courtyard garden, must-try scotch egg
Craft Burger Cambridge
Located right outside the Cambridge Rail Station, this under-the-radar (Sorry, no links!) food truck is serving up some real classics. Perfect for a quick snack before hopping on the train back to the city. To find them, simply look them up on google or look for the mint green coloured truck near the station entrance. In my opinion, there’s no better way to end a lovely day trip to Cambridge.
Highlights: can never, ever go wrong with a cheeseburger and a coke
