October Favorites

The fall is always a great time to start cooking warmer, cozier meals. I know I’ve been in the kitchen a little more than I was throughout summer, and I’ve had a chance to try out some amazing recipes. Starting now, on a monthly basis I’ll be highlighting other creators’ recipes that I’ve had the pleasure of recreating – and enjoying. Keep an eye out for these monthly posts and hopefully you’ll be introduced to new creators who you’ll love!

1. Detroit Style Pizza by Moribyan

Kicking off my favorites for this month is a creator I love, Moribyan. Every recipe of hers that I’ve tried has turned out amazing, and this Detroit-style pizza recipe is no exception. This is one of the best home-made pizza recipes I’ve found. The dough is easy to make and, if cooked correctly, has tremendous flavor and texture.

Of course, the best thing about a pizza recipe is you can really top it with whatever you like. From a classic pepperoni to a controversial Hawaiian, I’ve used this recipe a handful of times and always end up making a different version.

Tip: Make sure to grease the pan well! This will ensure your pizza gets that crispy bottom and sides that everyone wants!

2. Chocolate Chunk Cookies by BBC Good Food

Not much to say about this classic chocolate chunk cookie recipe! Like everyone else, I’m guilty of having the occasional strong craving for a classic chocolate chip cookie. I was looking for an easy, no-fuss recipe that I could whip up on short notice. That’s when I came across this recipe from BBC Good Food.

I have to admit, I’m one of those people who gets a bit lazy in my measuring while baking. A big “faux pas” perhaps, but this recipe is the perfect one for someone like me. A bit too much butter? No problem. Eyeballing the sugar a bit? Sounds good. I made this recipe a few times last month and the result was always a delicious, warm chocolate cookie, even for a reckless baker like myself.

Tip: I went with 70% dark chocolate bar, chopped up with a knife. If you prefer milk chocolate, or even white, definitely substitute to your liking!

3. Homemade Baked Filet-O-Fish by RecipeTin Eats

My partner and I absolutely love a cheeky McDonald’s Filet-O-Fish every now and then, and who doesn’t! I’ve made homemade Filet-O-Fish style sandwiches a few times, however, deep-frying at home can sometimes be more of a pain than its worth. That’s why I was grateful to come across this recipe by RecipeTin Eats, which offers a baked alternative for this famous sandwich.

The baked fish patties turned out fantastic and were easy to make. I’ll definitely be using this easy dredge batter – breadcrumbs combo again on other proteins for other dishes in the future!

Tip: Brioche buns, yellow processed cheese, and a healthy portion or tartare sauce are a must to give this sandwich that authentic Filet-O-Fish feeling.

Keep an eye out for our favorite recipes again at the end of next month!
